Class 5102
Code 5102 is applied to the commercial installation of metal or metal-covered doors, door frames or sash including the installation of non-overhead-type garage doors. It is also applied to the installation of commercial-type pre-glazed metal windows. Refer to Code 5462 for the installation of metal window frames by insureds that also set glass in place. The installation of all types of doors and windows in connection with residential dwelling construction, remodeling or repairs is properly assigned to the appropriate carpentry construction classification codes, Codes 5645 or 5403. With respects to commercial building construction, remodeling or repairs, the installation of pre-glazed non-metal windows and doors is properly assigned to the appropriate carpentry construction classification code, Code 5403.
Specialist contractors who perform interior nonstructural erection of iron, brass, or bronze staircases, balconies or mezzanines, railings, window or door lintels, window gratings, bank cages, and similar grille work are classified to Code 5102. The term “nonstructural” refers to erection or installation of products described above that do not support a wall, floor, ceiling, roof, or any other portion of the structure in which the product is placed. That is, the product is not intended to assist in preventing a structure or a portion of a structure from collapsing. Refer to iron or steel erection classifications for codes applicable to the erection or installation of structural components.
Code 5102 also applies to specialist contractors who perform erection work involving decorative or artistic iron, brass, or bronze elevator entrances and doors, memorial plaques, bronze wall facades, wrought iron facings, and similar decorative items.
Code 5102 applies to the hanging of flags or bunting for conventions or celebrations and other similar decorating on the exterior or interior of buildings. It applies to the installation of draperies or curtains in public buildings when the installation operations are from a height that cannot be reached from the floor or with the use of stepladders.
As Code 5102 is an erection classification, division of payroll between this code and other construction and/or erection classifications is possible, provided separate payroll records are maintained for each operation. Refer to MA Manual Rule IV-D-8.
The installation of metal decorative storm shutters panel, accordion or roll-down is assigned to Code 5102. All non-metal storm shutter installations are assigned to the appropriate carpentry construction classification codes, Codes 5645 or 5403.
