Class 5190
Applies to the installation of electrical wiring systems within buildings. There is no restriction as to the capacity of such wiring systems from an electrical standpoint, and the class applies equally to power circuitry as well as wiring for lighting purposes. The wiring may be hung on insulators or encased in rigid or flexible conduits, armored cable, etc. Code 5190 also applies to the installation of small electrical fixtures such as fuses, plugs or snap switches.
Code 5190 is also applied to the cleaning, oiling or adjusting of commercial refrigeration and non-portable air-conditioning systems. The cleaning, oiling, or adjusting of household refrigeration units is assigned to Code 9519.
Electrical wiring for the installation of commercial sewing machines or satellite dish installations are examples of work included in Code 5190.
Notwithstanding Code 5190's footnote, which indicates that installation of electrical machinery or auxiliary apparatus is separately rated to Code 3724, the incidental installation or repair of electrical apparatus in connection with Code 5190 operations is included in Code 5190 when performed under the same contract and at the same location by the same contractor who performs the electrical wiring operations.
The installation, service or repair of commercial appliances such as dishwashers, electric ovens, food mixers and fry kettles is assigned to Code 3724.
The installation of solar panels, whether ground-supported or installed on roofs, is assigned to Code 5538 and specifically includes all plumbing and electrical work. Site work, concrete pad construction, and supporting metal framework installation in conjunction with ground-supported solar panel installation are to be separately rated. Separately rate all roof repair in conjunction with qualifying Code 5538 solar panel roof installation to the appropriate roofing classification codes.
Refer to Codes 6325, 7600 or 7601 for low voltage communication cable installations conducted by specialist contractors.
Class 5190
Installation, dismantling or overhauling of compressors, motors or other machinery to be separately rated.
Applies to cable installation in conduits or subways. Conduit construction to be separately rated as Code 6325.
This classification includes the incidental installation or repair of electrical apparatus when performed by the same contractor who performs the electrical wiring operations. Installation of electrical machinery or auxiliary apparatus to be separately rated as Code 3724 electrical apparatus installation or repair.
