Class 5437
Code 5437 is intended primarily for specialist contractors performing interior carpentry finish or trim such as the installation of paneling, molding, cornices, parquet or finished wooden flooring, mantels, staircases, cabinets, and counters. Carpentry of this kind generally involves skilled workmanship.
The installation of interior doors by trim or finish carpenters is also included in Code 5437. These “specialists” will generally be required to perform a great degree of finish work, cut the door to the proper size to fit the existing framework, perhaps do some routing for any interlocking weather stripping or safety strips, and drill holes for the doorknob, hinges and striker plates.
No rough carpentry work is included under this classification.
Code 5437 is also assigned to the installation of countertops made from materials such as, but not limited to, laminated, plastic, veneer, particleboard, or pressed wood; Corian or similar solid surfaces or high-density plastic base materials; and non-laminated, solid wood or butcher block.
As noted in Code 5437’s footnotes regarding the installation of cabinet work/interior trim and finished wooden flooring, Code 5437 is not available for assignment to contractors who perform other carpentry operations at the same job or locations to which Code 5645 applies. Consistent with its restrictive footnotes, Code 5437 is, however, available for assignment to contractors who perform other carpentry operations at the same job or locations to which Code 5403 applies.
Stair building (wooden)—erection—assign to the appropriate carpentry classification structural carpentry classification(s), not Code 5437.
Laminate wood flooring, such as engineered wood flooring installed using glue-down or interlocking methods, is assigned to Code 5437 when installed by specialist contractors.
Refer to Code 5348 for the installation of tile, granite, marble, or other stone countertops.
