Medical Data

In October of 2008, the WCRIBMA announced that the WCRIBMA’s Governing Committee approved the adoption of the NCCI's Medical Data Call. The Medical Data Call requires the reporting of line item detail from medical bills relating to workers' compensation medical payment transactions. The WCRIBMA entered into an agreement with NCCI whereby NCCI will collect the Medical Data Call on behalf of the WCRIBMA. The Medical Data Call began with the collection of medical transactions occurring in the 3rd quarter of 2010, reported by December 31, 2010.

Beginning with 4th Quarter 2020 data, the WCRIBMA began collecting Massachusetts jurisdiction state medical transactions. The same WCMED file layouts are used and submitted through Compensation Data Exchange (CDX). Carrier groups with at least 1% market share on direct written premiums in Massachusetts over the most recent three years were required to submit the Medical Data Call.

In October 2022, the WCRIBMA announced that the WCRIBMA’s Governing Committee authorized expanding the reporting requirements for the Medical Data Call. Carrier groups with at least .5% market share on direct written premiums in Massachusetts over the most recent three years are now required to submit the Medical Data Call. The change in eligibility threshold is effective with transactions beginning in second quarter 2023 with the first data due to be reported to the WCRIBMA by the end of the third quarter 2023.
