Human Resources Generalist (Part Time)

We are seeking a part-time (60% - 75%) Human Resources Generalist who wants to own the HR function. This is a true generalist role that will cover everything from daily operational tasks to long-range strategic planning and everything in between. The Human Resources Generalist is a hybrid role that allows for a majority of remote work, with in-office time at our convenient downtown Boston location.

Position Summary

Working collaboratively with the Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the operations of the Human Resources function, including payroll, employee benefits, recruiting, employee relations, policy and procedure interpretation, and performance management & compensation planning. The Human Resources Generalist will also assist with short- and long-term Human Resources and enterprise-wide projects.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all payroll activities, including review of employee timecards and employee self-service transactions prior to bi-weekly payroll processing via Paycom, and processing bi-weekly 401k contributions and loan payments via Fidelity. Verify payroll tax reporting and resolve any issues on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Administer all active employee benefits. Responsible for the administration of employee open enrollment process, ensuring all employee changes are accurately processed with the appropriate benefits vendor. Assist in the annual review of benefit plan designs and make changes as needed. Assist with the administration of retiree benefits.
  • Source and recruit for exempt and non-exempt positions. Coordinate interviews, facilitate background checks, extend employment offers, and coordinate onboarding.
  • Interpret Human Resources policies and procedures and answer questions from managers and staff. Triage potential employee relations issues and work closely with VP, Chief Financial Officer to facilitate appropriate resolution.
  • Maintain Human Resources policies and procedures; annually review the Employee Handbook to determine updates and changes. Collaborate with VP, Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel on handbook revisions. Ensure that changes in employment law are reflected in WCRIBMA policies.
  • Oversee employee performance review process including preparing and distributing annual performance plan documents and compensation adjustment templates. Review all performance plans to ensure that language is clear and that performance standards are uniformly applied, provide feedback and/or suggested revisions to supervisors as needed prior to final approval. Maintain performance review documents and job descriptions and update them as necessary.
  • Produce Human Resources communications including but not limited to open enrollment and changes to policies/procedures. Maintain Human Resources page of the intranet and ensure that up-to-date information is available.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Oversee employee attendance tracking. Oversee employee leaves of absence and time off including FMLA and PFML.
  • Serve as project leader for programs and activities such as service awards and employee appreciation events.
  • Maintain all employee files, other Human Resources files, and employment law posters.
  • Provides general operations or administrative support as needed.
  • Commensurate with experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred; four or more years related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong to advanced computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite Products required. Prior experience with Paycom is preferred, but not required.
  • Must possess meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must have ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Able to perform well under pressure, balance multiple projects, and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated practical, hands-on, “can-do” approach, and the ability to work efficiently and creatively.
  • Highest professional standards and customer-service orientation.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR-related laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to interact successfully with many different personality types and to effectively develop and maintain strong working relationships across all levels internally and outside the association.
